Character Information:
Name: Fandral, also called Fandral the Dashing of the Warriors Three
Canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Canon Point: End of Thor 2
Age: Unknown. Asgardians live for thousands of years, but specifics are never really stated. He has been fighting alongside Thor for a very long time, so they’re probably around the same age. It could be anywhere from 800 to 1500 years, but he appears to be about his mid-thirties.

Setting:
The world Fandral lives in is nothing like the world of Earth that we know. In fact, there’s far more in the universe than Earth knows, and that is the Nine Realms, which are: Alfheim (home of the Light Elves), Asgard (the home of Asgardians, ruled by Odin the Allfather), Jotunheim (the home of a race called the Frost Giants, once ruled by Laufey, Loki’s biological father), Midgard (also known as Earth), Muspelheim (the home of beings called Fire Demons), Nidavellir (home to the Dwarves), Niffleheim (realm of the dead), Svartalfheim (the home of the Dark Elves, ruled by Malekith), and Vanaheim (the home of the Vanir, who are allies of Asgard). All are believed to be supported by Yggdrasill, a giant ash tree.

Asgard, also known as “The Realm Eternal,” is the resting place of Asgardians like Fandral and many who became prominent figures in Norse mythology, inaccurately cited as gods. Their biology is different, and they live drastically longer lives than mortals, but they are not gods. They simply have different abilities than the people of Earth.

Asgard strives for peace between the worlds, led by Odin Allfather, husband of Frigga and father of Loki and Thor. They prevented Earth from being overtaken by the Frost Giants, and they have warriors always ready for whenever there is a battle that requires them. On Earth, Asgardians were viewed as gods, which is not difficult to see why: they came down in the days of the Vikings, and Thor wields a hammer called Mjölnir, which lets him not only summon lightning, but gives him the ability to fly. Their stories were told after they had left Earth to its own devices, and Asgard and its people went down in history as Norse mythology.

The Warriors Three did not, however, get a place in Norse mythology. Still, they are a vital part of it. They are given orders directly from Odin, they keep constant company with Asgard's princes, and they are always ready to go into battle whenever needed. They are even given places of honor at Thor's coronation. Fandral and Volstagg are shown consulting with Odin in regards to battle in the second movie. They may not have been "famous" enough to have their own places in mythology, but they certainly have a high standing within Asgard.

Asgard is an advanced society, a place where magic and science are “one and the same thing.” And yet, they still retain a society that could be viewed as backwards, resembling the age of Vikings more than anything else. They have fierce warriors trained in combat, they have extravagant feasts, great halls, believe in honor and dignity and the glory of battle, and go into said battle with swords, knives, maces, axes, and armor instead of guns or bulletproof vests or more “advanced” weaponry. The people there have a much different manner of speech, something that Earth would generally find in old texts and works done many centuries prior to 2013.

Earth itself is mostly like the one we know, though with a few additions. Namely, heroes and superheroes that work to protect their own peace, and a very Big Brother agency going by SHIELD that recently got them together to fight off the incoming invasion brought on by Loki. A team called the Avengers was assembled when Loki tried to overtake the Earth, which included a mixture of “normal” people and superpowered individuals. Tony Stark has no superpowers of his own but has created the Iron Man armor, which allows him to fly and turns him into a very formidable opponent to those he comes cross. Steve Rogers was given, purposefully, superhuman abilities through a serum. With those two as well as Bruce Banner (Hulk), Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow), and Clint Barton (Hawkeye), Thor works alongside them in order to stop the invasion and bring Loki to justice, which involves transporting him back to Asgard. Although Thor had been on Earth two years prior, Loki’s appearance and his usage of an army called the Chitauri was the first time they had a confirmed run-in with aliens.

So now Earth not only has its own set of heroes and superheroes, they’ve also got knowledge of aliens. This only grows during and after Thor: The Dark World, when Thor makes a return and there’s no way for him to keep it hidden.

Personality:

Fandral the Dashing is, well, dashing. Naturally. He’s of the swashbuckling, womanizing variety, one of those lovers of wine, women, and song. He is part of a group called the Warriors Three, consisting of him, Volstagg the Valiant, and Hogun the Grim. They keep company with the Lady Sif, Thor, and Loki, and work to protect all the Realms whenever anything happens to disturb the peace.

Asgard is sworn to protect the peace, and Fandral is sworn to protect Asgard. This is something he takes on as best he can, working to keep the peace between his friends when things threaten to get out of hand.

Fandral could be considered both the heart and the brains of the group. He’s sworn to serve Asgard and its king, no matter what, and has been in constant company with both Thor and Loki for a good deal of time. He knows them both very well, and even though Thor is his prince and future king, he has no issues holding back whenever faced with something he finds disagreeable. Thor declares that he intends to go to Jotunheim, Fandral immediately tells him it’s a poor idea. He knows Thor. He knows what the Allfather would think of it. With those two things in mind, he speaks, and not harshly or insultingly, but with a gravity that portrays he’s speaking seriously. Even if he’s later won over to the idea through some heavy-handed reminders that Thor has led them to great things before, he doesn’t hesitate or ask permission before speaking up about it.

When it’s suggested that Loki may have had a hand in what resulted in Thor’s banishment, he is the first to speak up on his behalf. Even when the idea is being presented by someone he considers a friend, he has no issues with speaking his mind on what he considers to be true. That is, Loki is one for tricks and mischief, not something that results in unneeded deaths and stress between two Realms. He also happens to be the last to really, truly believe that Loki has gone off the deep end, and only after he’s faced with him sitting on the throne and refusing to undo Odin’s order for Thor’s exile. Even shocked and shaken by it, he is the last to drop his arm across his chest, still stuck on loyalty and duty even though the new king is not the sort of king Asgard wants or needs. When the Lady Sif moves to do something that would probably get her in a great deal of trouble, Fandral immediately grabs her and says a few words that he hopes will help to smooth over the very tense nature of the meeting at hand. He’d rather her not be injured or end up in a less than pleasant position for being rash, and so he acts on both that. He grabs her, uses a few placating words, and makes sure that everyone leaves the throne room in one piece and, also, not being sent to a prison cell.

When faced with the idea of committing treason to see to it that Thor is brought back to Asgard, he goes as soon as they find a means to do it and that the keeper of the Bifrost is on their side and is willing to transport them. He considers both Thor and Loki his friends, but one is not acting properly and not in the best interests of Asgard. Even though it could result in a severe punishment if it doesn’t work, he still goes to Earth with Volstagg, Hogun, and Sif to bring Thor back and restore the order needed. He knows that what he is doing would be considered a grave crime if Loki apprehended them, but the Realms are in danger if they do nothing, and so he acts for the good of Asgard as opposed to just the good of her king.

Even if that king happens to be someone Fandral had considered a friend.

On Earth with a Thor stripped of Mjölnir and his power, Fandral works to find him and convince him to return. Faced with an enemy sent by Loki himself, he takes up arms against it. The Destroyer doesn’t seem to be content just to hunt Thor, instead perfectly pleased with taking out cars and buildings along the way. Once they’ve made sure they can get the innocent out of reach of it, they immediately go to work fighting against it. He’s not working just to protect Thor, but to protect everyone in the area, because that is what Asgardian warriors are meant to do.

Protect and serve. It doesn’t necessarily mean they want much to do with the people of that world once things are taken care of, but while an Asgardian warrior like Fandral is there and chaos is involved? He’s doing whatever he possibly can to stop it, even if his life is threatened.

After the events of the Avengers, Loki is returned to Asgard and imprisoned, only for things to go belly up again. Thor calls a meeting with them wherein he tells Volstagg, Fandral, and Sif (Hogun having gone back to his own Realm and Heimdall having already been in the know) that he intends to commit treason with the help of Loki. Fandral is the first to pipe up with the fact of the matter that Loki will betray him, nothing else. He does not ask him if he’s insane, doesn’t say anything insulting, just states the facts. It also prevents Sif or Volstagg from having the chance to get in a harsh word before anything else. Of course, he eventually gives into the plan, but he takes the chance to speak his mind, and to do so without adding anything said only to offend.

This does not mean that Fandral has no sense of humor, as he’s thoroughly capable of taking delight in poking fun at others and even at himself. He makes fun of Volstagg’s appetite and weight (Volstagg himself is a very large man who can eat far too much in one sitting), he makes fun of Hogun seemingly being incapable of smiling (thus being called “the Grim”), and quietly laughs along when Volstagg takes a shot at Loki. Both Volstagg and Sif take shots at him, too, and he doesn’t take it as offensive. They’re all friends, what is a little joking between them?

Volstagg, Hogun, Sif, Thor, and Loki are the people he comes into contact with most, particularly on the battlefield. They’ve fought together for many years, and they fight as fluidly as water moves. They work together back-to-back, and they save each other’s lives countless times without needing thanks. For instance: Fandral ends up skewered by Jotuns, Loki immediately throws a set of daggers to ward off the incoming Frost Giant that would kill him. Sif simply raising her shield can prevent others from taking a mortal blow. Quick thinking by each of them, trust between them, and the skills they have acquired over countless years of training pays off and makes them quite the little force to be dealt with, even missing Loki.

Fandral likes luxury. He wears fur coats, he likes good food and drink like all proper Asgardians, is proud of his fine looks, and really enjoys the company of large amounts of women. His humor is jolly, he’s quite talkative, and he’s fond of even the cheesiest kind of innuendo.

Though he has obvious flaws with following his heart, it remains true. His spirit is brave, and loyalty runs through him like blood itself. There’s nothing he wouldn’t do for the good of Asgard, and he has no issues acting on it. He tries to remain reasonable, though, well…with Thor as a friend and brother in arms, that? Can be quite the task.

How he will react to the news that they are now part of the In Between of life, dreaming, and death: Fandral frequently travels between Realms, so this will not be as great a shock as it would be for someone from a more “realistic” version of Earth. Being told he’s here to fight in a war will have him taking it seriously. He’s sworn to protect the peace, and he’ll do whatever he can to help out, even if he hasn’t been commanded to it by the Allfather. He’s sworn to protect the peace, and even if he’s not doing so by a higher order, he’ll do all he can to make sure that the kedan don’t suffer needlessly while he can do something about it.

Appearance:

Blond hair, blue eyes, he prefers to dress in colors like black and dark green. If his style is reminiscent of Robin Hood, then all is well. When his character was invented for the comics, he was based on Errol Flynn, who played Robin Hood.

Abilities: Fandral has every ability Asgardians have, considering he has their biology working on his side. Asgardian’s have superhuman abilities in every physical way (stronger, faster, more agile, capable of lasting longer in battle without growing tired), and also heal much faster, too. Asgardians have skin, muscle, and bone that are around three times thicker than the average human being. (In comics, this ends up making them three times heavier than what they appear to be. This would make Fandral just underneath 600 pounds, but the cinematic universe hasn’t really addressed whether or not this is included, considering Thor sat in a diner chair without any difficulty.) Asgardians are also born capable of practicing magic, though Fandral hasn’t shown any interest in it so far.

In comics, Thor calls Fandral “the best of us with a blade,” and that is his preferred weapon in combat. Considering it’s his area of expertise, he goes into battle with a sword. He’s also shown to carry other, smaller blades with him. As a trained warrior, his superhuman abilities are honed, right at the peak of just how very good he could be. Having been a warrior for so long, he’s well-trained in every means of combat, including hand-to-hand. He’s an Asgardian at the height of physical strength, and he’s got plenty of years ahead of him to improve on what he already has.

Inventory: His battle clothes, armor, his rapier, and a small blade.

Suite: Wood, two floors. He comes from Asgard, and the worlds are described as being on Yggdrasill, the World Tree. So considering it relies on trees in its architecture, I think it fits him the best. He’s used to a life of luxury back home, but he’s spent plenty of time being unable to have anything luxurious on the battlefield, so he’d be fine with two floors, not three. Something to help keep him humble.

In-Character Samples:

Third Person:

Ah. A woman glaring at him with disapproval in her eyes. Fandral knew that look very well. He’d even managed to get it a few times before while being stuck in water, thanks to being caught off guard in a battle that had lasted for days full of nothing but pouring rain. He couldn’t place her face, which was also something he was used to. Him revealing that he couldn’t remember the fair lady’s name usually led to that look, but considering he had said nothing at all? He wasn’t sure why he’d gotten it in the first place.

The news that he had been taken away to fight a war managed to take the carefree spirit right out of him, and he did his best to get all the information he possibly could. Which wasn’t a lot, but he assumed they didn’t have a lot to give him. He took on the name and the fact that he wasn’t supposed to use it, gave a terribly charming smile in return for it, and found it easy to fall back on his usual self. Feeling weak was something he certainly had never appreciated, but he appreciated those who were doing their best to answer his questions. Their demeanor made it difficult to be angry at them, and once he digested that no one currently in the room was at fault for his being dragged away, he found it easy to crack jokes and flash charming grins and wink, even as he had to be helped to his feet and given time to make sure he could keep himself standing.

The ride, strange thing that it was, was as jolly as he could make it. There was no room for him to give off a bad impression, and not just because it could make his name look bad. No. He was, as always, a representative of Asgard, and it would do no one any good for the name of the Allfather to be portrayed in a bad light. No matter where he was, he took the name of Asgard with him. He hardly wanted these new people to look badly on her, so he did everything in his power to make sure that wouldn’t be the case. He refused to be surly, asked questions about the architecture and landscape once it seemed he’d gotten all the information out of them he could, and didn’t press for more when they seemed to become quiet or unable to answer his questions. Halfway through the ride, he taught them a little game that could be played with their hands and nothing more, and he found himself a little sad to have to leave their company.

Company could be good or bad, he had always found. When it came to having Fandral in one’s company? It was as good as it could possibly be.

Trees. Trees everywhere. It made him smile as much as anything else had, and he clutched the little pamphlet as he took a good look around at what he assumed would be his new home for a while. Remember, don't say the M-name, fresh in his mind, he set out to find his new living quarters, wondering briefly if he’d ever be able to fill his new closet with fur coats as nice as the ones he’d been forced to leave behind.

Network:

[Those who can see this message are truly blessed to be looking upon such a handsome man. Blond, bearded, and still in full armor sits Fandral, although a little too close for comfort. Too close because he’s not quite used to this sort of device yet, and the image shakes as a loud noise makes it evident he’s just smacked the thing. Sure, he can travel between the worlds of the universe without difficulty, and his people are advanced…but every now and then, in order to make sure something works, hitting it is really the only course to be taken.

He leans back, ridiculously pleased with himself, and interlaces his fingers over his stomach.
]

Ah. Yes. It must be working properly now. [Because hitting things always makes them work! So what if it was working just fine before! It must be working extra properly now.] So! Keeliai, home of displeased women and chattery people, I have heard you are at war. This must be very distressing, but I assure you: there is no better warrior of Asgard you could have on your side than Fandral the Dashing of the Warriors Three. [Because surely no one else from Asgard is here; he would have heard about it! He’s very important, after all.] It is a great day for all, you have my word.

It would be a greater day still if I could be obliged with the names of establishments that are well-stocked with alcohol. Directions, too, of course. What say you? Where is your finest liquor to be found?

[The best way to make sure everyone feels like they’ve found a great guy: tell them how great he is, then get drunk together. What other way is there to introduce himself?]
